About the Studio

The Paper Conservation Studio is a private studio in South Africa specializing in the treatment of flat paper objects such as documents, works of art on paper, maps etc.

The Studio is run by Claire Forrester who has an MA Conservation of Fine Art (Works of Art on Paper) from Northumbria University in the United Kingdom. The course run by Northumbria is considered one of the best conservation courses in the world focusing heavily on practical work carried out on real historical objects and chemical understanding of paper, media and treatments used by conservators. Claire is one of the few paper conservators in South Africa with this degree and as such one of the most qualified in the country.

The Paper Conservation Studio is up to date with current international practices and stays informed of changing trends in paper conservation.

The Studio provides services to museums, galleries, libraries and to private individual clients.
